Stephen Constantine resigns as Pakistan head coach after two games incharge
Pakistan won 1-0 against Cambodia under Stephen Constantine
The Pakistan National football team scripted history by winning their first-ever FIFA World Cup Qualifier as they defeated Cambodia 1-0 earlier this week. The Pakistani side achieved this feat under former India manager Stephen Constantine.
The English manager helped the Falcons achieve this milestone and was applauded by football pundits all across the globe. But, Pakistan’s happiness was short-lived after the Englishman was released by the Pakistan Football Federation soon after their win.
Why has Stephen Constantine been removed?
According to The Express Tribune, the English Manager was brought in to handle the Pakistan national team on a short term contract. His job was only to manage them for a couple of games against Cambodia.
“Of course, he will return because he was hired for the short-term, and I can say that he has done such a brilliant job with the team,” the official told The Express Tribune.
The official also mentioned that the federation will try to hire the services of the manager again. But, there are a lot of factors to consider like availability and financial terms before hiring him again.
“He will return later once we renew it. There are many things to consider for example his availability as well. His contract was for more or less around a month-long commitment with us.
He said that the federation is in full favour of Constantine remaining with the Pakistan National team and leading them in the second round of the World Cup Qualifiers. But, until then he will move back.
“But principally he should stay and take the team to the second round of the World Cup qualifiers as well, I can say that we will be fully in favour of him continuing with us, but for now we have to look at the logistics of renewing the contract, he will go back till then.”
Pakistan under Stephen Constantine
Pakistan became a different team under the English manager. They looked much better, sharp and raring to go. They ended their 13 game losing streak with a fabulous win over Cambodia. Moreover, the win also marked their first victory at home after 8 long years.
