Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior has extended his contract, which will keep him with the team until 2027.

"Real Madrid and Vini Jr. have reached an agreement to extend the player's contract, linking him to the club until 30 June 2027," the club stated in a statement.

After moving from Brazilian team Flamengo to Real Madrid in 2018, Vinicius, at 23 years old, has emerged as among La Liga's most talented players. He scored the game-winning goal against Liverpool in the Champions League final of the previous season.

This season's finish marked the expiration of his current contract. Although it was only officially announced on Tuesday, local media indicated that an extension had previously been decided upon last year.

Although the club did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, Spanish media claimed that it had a release clause worth one billion euros ($1.06 billion), which is the same amount as those included in the contracts of other young Barcelona players.

In addition to placing sixth in this year's Ballon d'Or vote, Vinicius was recognised for his humanitarian efforts with the Socrates prize, which bears the name of the famous Brazilian.

Although the precise amount is unknown, Vinicius has been granted a release clause of €1 billion ($1 billion) in addition to a pay rise. It is believed that the extension talks began more than a year ago and were signed a month ago. The club waited until a favourable moment to make the announcement.

It is anticipated that Camavinga, Rodrygo, and Valverde will all extend their current agreements through 2028. According to reports, these players will share Vinicius Jr.'s release clause.
