Sergio Lobera doesn't want to think about the past or future, but wants to solely focus on the Mohun Bagan game.

Odisha FC will face Mohun Bagan Super Giant at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on November 27 for their upcoming AFC Cup encounter.

Although the Juggernauts suffered a 4-0 defeat in their previous clash against the Mariners, they will approach the upcoming game with a strong sense of confidence, which is due to their recent victories over Maziya S&RC in the last two matches of the competition.

The pre-match press conference was attended by Odisha FC’s head coach Sergio Lobera and player Lenny Rodrigues. Here's what they said.

Game against Mohun Bagan

Eventhough Odisha FC suffered a defeat in their inaugural match of the championship to Mohun Bagan, they displayed great resilience in the subsequent games and currently occupy the third position in the standings with a total of six points.

Coach Sergio Lobera stated, “I believe that in the first game of this competition, our team was underestimated, but we proved that we are still in the game. Last game against them was challenging for us, but we managed to cope well when we had eleven players on the field.”

“However, in the second half, playing with 10 players proved to be very difficult. Mohun Bagan are a formidable team, even with their injuries. The most crucial aspect for us to focus on is our teamwork on the field. We are thrilled about this opportunity to demonstrate our readiness for such challenges,” he added.

Mohun Bagan’s unbeaten record against Odisha FC

Whether it is the AFC Cup or the ISL, Mohun Bagan have always emerged victorious in every encounter against Odisha FC. When questioned about this remarkable record, Segio Lobera emphasized the significance of living in the present moment and not dwelling on past achievements or future prospects. He said, “Football is centered around the current moment. While the past holds significance, it cannot directly impact our performance in the present game. Speculating about where we might find ourselves in the next two or three months is an unproductive use of time.”

“Our primary concern should be the immediate future, specifically the game scheduled for tomorrow. The past alone cannot guarantee victory in tomorrow's match, and contemplating the future while under pressure will not aid us in our endeavors,” he added.

Odisha FC’s game plan

Odisha FC will undoubtedly enter the field with a strategic approach, well-prepared to confront the formidable adversary on their own turf. Lenny Rodrigues said, “It is an important game as we are set to face a highly skilled team. When it comes to tactics and planning, my top priority always lies in focusing on our own strengths. We do not require, nor desire, extensive alterations simply because the opponent is different.”

“It is essential for us to familiarize ourselves with certain aspects of the opposing team. However, the utmost importance lies in remaining true to our own style of play,” he added.
