The Referee Development Program aims to develop the next generation of football referees in the country from the region.

Kipa Ajay, Treasurer of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Honorary Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA), took to the social microblogging website X (formerly Twitter), to highlight the beginning of the Referee Development Program at Pasighat Outdoor Stadium, Pasighat, East Siang District.

The program strives to recruit a fresh batch of football referees by developing their skills in the Level 8 Category of the All India Football Federation. It is being organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association under the aegis of the AIFF. There is also the support of East Siang Football Association which is making the program happen in the North-eastern region of India, which is also popular for its football culture and producing sensational players.

An exciting program

The Referee Development Program has 55 candidates who are taking part this year, and come from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Kipa Ajay informed, through his post on X, that M. Joychandra Singh, Northeast Zonal Referee Development officer (AIFF) is the Course Instructor for the event. Furthermore, Shri Tana Sunny, HoR, Arunachal Football Referee Committee, APFA, is the Course Coordinator.

The Referee Development Program will certainly aid in producing quality referees, which is a dire need today in Indian football. It is also a brilliant step towards providing an opportunity to budding football enthusiasts from Arunachal Pradesh to chart their careers in football by becoming referees.

It is heartening to see positive steps being taken to promote employment opportunities for the youth of Arunachal Pradesh. Football is a major part of the local culture and initiatives like the Referee Development Program will aid the sport in flourishing in the region even further.

Recently, AIFF’s Acting GS M Satyanarayan launched APFA’s website in New Delhi. Moreover, the final of the FIFA Santosh Trophy 2023-24 will see FIFA President Gianni Infantino visit Arunachal Pradesh in March of next year.
