Buckingham left Mumbai City to join his boyhood club Oxford United FC.
Mumbai City FC have been an unwavering force in the past few seasons, picking up accolades and scripting their names into the history books.
The Islanders have established their names as arguably one of the best sides in the league, and throughout this journey of redemption and reclamation, Des Buckingham has been the biggest protagonist, who has guided the club to new and unmatched heights.
The Englishman however, took the tough decision of leaving Mumbai City FC earlier this month, to join his boyhood club Oxford United FC in the English third division.
This move came as a real shock to the club as well as its fans, as one of their most beloved members bid adieu.
Chhangte’s message for Des Buckingham
With the coach now on the move, Lallianzuala Chhangte expressed his plight upon Des Buckingham’s departure, and wrote words of appreciation for the coach who made him the player he is today.
In his Instagram post, Chhangte wrote, “You were the one who brought me in the team and made me the player I am right now. Those were the times I was in my lows. I still remember talking to you on the phone, telling me that you had faith in my ability to take the club to new heights and that I would play an important role for the club. Those words coming from you gave me new hope, motivated me to restart and agree without the need to think twice.” Chhangte exclaimed.
“I cannot thank you enough for all that you have done for me and the team . It was a privilege working/playing for you. Though it will be incomplete without you, I know you are making the right decision. I wish you all the choicest things in life and a successful journey to your new club. I feel so happy to have known that you’ll be having a great time with your family's love and support beside.” he added.
The winger conclusively said, “May the almighty God bless you in all your works and choices. I bless you too.”
