Kylian Mbappe becomes youngest player in European top 5 leagues to reach 300 goals

The Frenchman has remained ruthless in front of goal

Skipper of France Kylian Mbappé was more delighted with his team's accomplishment than his own individual record on Saturday as Didier Deschamps' team destroyed Gibraltar with a record 14-0 victory.

At the age of 24 years, 10 months, and 29 days, Mbappé's hat-trick at Nice made him the youngest player ever to score 300 goals in the top five divisions in Europe and international competition altogether.

Mbappé was eager to concentrate on the team's accomplishment on a night when he led his team to a historic triumph, the largest-ever win in a European qualifier, and the biggest-ever win for France.

"We need to highlight the collective victory," Mbappé said.

There have been a lot of talented France teams, to beat this record for the biggest win is something special. A team best is much more valuable than a personal best.

"The 300 goals scored in my career is a new milestone for me but it takes a back seat because the team put in an extraordinary performance today.

"Some players scored 800, others 850, 300 next to it, it's ridiculous! It's a step for me and I want to continue to be decisive for my national team and my club," Mbappé said.

The 300th goal was deserving of the achievement. Youssouf Fofana sent the ball to Mbappé, who saw the Gibraltar custodian off his line and launched an incredible lob from 40 metres out. He said he had been observing the keeper's position during the match.

France put on a merciless display, striking seven goals in each half against a Gibraltar team that was behind 3-0 and reduced to ten men after eighteen minutes.

On a night when he appeared content to offer his fellow players the goals they needed to secure the record victory, Mbappé not just netted three goals but also gave three assists.
