The Super Eagles begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification campaign

Nigeria announced the squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers starting in November. The Super Eagles play against Lesotho at home and away against Zimbabwe.

Nigeria plays 10 matches in the qualifier stage and are in Group C along with Benin, Rwanda, South Africa and two other teams they play in November.

The Nigerian team will start their AFCON 2023 campaign against Equatorial Guinea on 14 January. They then play Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau in the other two group games.

Bayer Leverkusen striker, Nathan Tella has earned a national team call-up as the Super Eagles. He was born in England to parents of Nigerian descent and is eligible to play for both countries.

Last year, he was rewarded with a fresh three-and-a-half contract with Southampton, which would have seen him remain at the club until 2025.

He then moved to join Burnley on a season-long loan in August 2022.

After just one season, Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen announced the signing of Tella on a five-year contract for a reported fee of around £20 million.

Victor Osimhen misses out due to a hamstring injury.
