Anfield has been Liverpool's fortress since its development.

The Anfield Road structure will be finished in time for Liverpool's blockbuster match against Manchester City on March 9.

The Reds had planned to finish the £80 million renovation—which started in September 2021—in time for their first home game of the current campaign, but they faced numerous setbacks with the project.

According to sources who revealed the work that will raise Anfield's capacity to 61,000, the work will likely be finished by the end of February or the beginning of March.

While there's a possibility that when Liverpool play Luton Town on February 24, the work on the upper part of the stand will be finished, the City match seems more likely.

In August, Buckingham Group Builders, the principal builders, submitted a management request. The club declared a phased reopening and named Rayner Rowen as the replacement firm to "resume the final works on the project."

"This is a complex and frustrating situation," said CEO Billy Hogan, expressing his dissatisfaction at the delays.

'‘Our team here and the consultants, as well as Rayner Rowen, are working incredibly hard to ensure we’re doing everything we can to progress the project as quickly as possible.’'

"There's a lot of different, various factors that are going into this discussion and into this review, so many pieces of the jigsaw that we need to pull together so it's just not possible at this point to put a new timeline in place."

Because of the delay, Liverpool are reportedly losing £750,000 every game. During the hold-up, they will have hosted a minimum of 18 home games, which will result in a £13.5 million loss in income.
