USA announce squad for upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023

USA were the runners-up in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship 2023

The USA squad for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023 has been announced. The United States will begin their campaign on 12 November against the South Koreans. France and Burkina Faso are the other big teams in their group.

USA finished fourth in the 1999 edition and this is their best-ever finish in the U-17 World Cup. They were eliminated in the group stage of the last competition and will be eyeing a better result this time.

The USA U-17 squad is currently training in Bali for two weeks and will be travelling on 7 November to Jakarta, which will host all three of the group stage games.

Players born on or after 1 January 2006 are age-eligible for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023. Segares called up 17 players born in 2006, four born in 2007 and one born in 2008 – Charlotte FC forward Nimfasha Berchimas. The 15-year-old forward is the USA’s youngest player at the U-17 World Cup since 14-year-old Freddy Adu at Finland in 2003.

Three alternates will travel with the U.S. to Indonesia to train with the team prior to the tournament: defenders Shakir Nixon (LAFC) and Luca Bombino (LAFC) as well as forward Sal Olivas (Philadelphia Union).
