It’s a celebration of football against these types of teams, asserts Petr Kratky on facing Mohun Bagan
Kratky also updated on who he will choose for the game- Tiri or Rostyn Griffiths.
The ISL 2023-24 season is set to witness a blockbuster clash as Mumbai City FC prepares to take on Mohun Bagan in a showdown of titans. This highly anticipated encounter between the reigning ISL Shield champions, Mumbai City FC, and the formidable ISL Trophy holders, Mohun Bagan, promises a spectacle of football brilliance. Both teams enter the game undefeated, heightening the anticipation for a thrilling match.
Under the determined leadership of Petr Kratky, Mumbai City FC seeks a crucial victory, marking Kratky’s era as head coach. The home advantage adds a significant dimension as they aim to assert dominance over the reigning champions. The clash not only showcases the prowess of these football powerhouses but also underscores the legacy of success.
Let’s see what Petr Kratky and Vikram Partap Singh has to say ahead of the game:
Back-to-Back Clean Sheets, Yet Goal Drought
Mumbai City FC enters the match with three consecutive clean sheets against teams such as Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, and East Bengal. While their defense appears top-notch, a concern arises due to their inability to score in the last two games against FC Goa and East Bengal. Whether the clean sheets will boost the team’s motivation, the coach responded,
“It’s always a boost. Mohun Bagan is one of the top teams. So we are excited to play. Good teams are what we are waiting for. It’s a celebration of football against these types of teams, especially at home. We will defend properly, but also we sort of work on how we can score more goals and create more goal scoring opportunities.”
Sahal Abdul Samad’s Injury
The Indian midfield maestro has proven to be one of Mohun Bagan’s most crucial players this season, tallying four assists. When questioned about the potential advantage of his injury for Mumbai City FC, the Czech tactician highlighted,
“We are fully aware of the team of Mohun Bagan, they have very good quality players. So, yes they lost very very important players, but again for us, as I said, we analysed, we see where we can expose them, where they are dangerous in. So, yes the personal is important, but we will always look at ourselves. If we do the things right, everything else will be taken care of.”
Tiri or Rostyn Griffiths?
Tiri featured in the starting lineup against East Bengal, while Rostyn Griffiths was present against FC Goa. When questioned about the coach’s choice for the starting lineup against The Mariners, the tactician answered,
“We don’t know yet. We still have one training to go. They both are very quality players. So, maybe both of them will play or else only one of them. It’s the question for tomorrow, but they are fully available and they’re very good players.”
Approach for Tomorrow
The clash against Mohun Bagan is a top-of-the-table encounter. When asked about his approach, the coach responded, “The approach will be the same as every game. As I told the playing group, our approach has to be the same. Just do our best from the first minute to the last minute. The way we want to play, it will not change.”
“These kinds of games can make a difference in the league. The mentality of each player is different going into such games. Every player knows the importance of this game. Every player is ready”, Vikram added.
