Sports Odisha have already played a game in the IWL, but this will be Crispin Chettri’s Odisha FC’s first game of the campaign.

Odisha FC are preparing to confront Sports Odisha in their inaugural match of the Indian Women’s League (IWL 2023-24) at the Capital Football Arena, Bhubaneswar. In addition to Odisha, six other teams are also participating in the league, competing in a home and away round-robin format.

In the preceding season, Odisha FC progressed to the quarter-final stage after securing the third position in their group, accumulating 16 points from seven matches. Regrettably, they faced defeat in the quarter-final against Gokulam Kerala.

Today, during the pre-match press conference, head coach Crispin Chettri and player Manisa Panna both exuded confidence as they discussed about their upcoming match scheduled for tomorrow.

Look for a positive start

Undoubtedly Sports Odisha are a formidable team, but Odisha FC will also aim to commence the league on a positive note. Coach Crispin Chettri said, “It is imperative that we commence our first match on a highly positive note. This is a distinct circumstance that sets it apart. The upcoming game, which takes place tomorrow, is entirely separate from what transpired in the past. We must leave the past behind as tomorrow represents a fresh day, a new beginning.”

Preparation for the match

When asked about the preparation for the match and the league, Manisa Panna replied, “Our preparation is going well under the guidance of our coach. He has been providing us all the technical and tactical support that is needed to come out with better results.”

Match between two of Odisha’s team

Both Odisha FC and Sports Odisha are teams from the same state. Crispin Chettri said regarding the same, “It’s a great achievement for Odisha that both the teams consist of a good number of players from Odisha.”

“It is indeed a delightful occasion for the local community that both the teams from Odisha are set to compete tomorrow. Although the Sports Odisha team has already played a match and is familiar with the pitch, we are determined to put up a strong fight in the upcoming game,” Manisa added.
