Jurgen Klopp’s side will face Arsenal in the next game

The Anfield atmosphere was criticised by Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool defeated West Ham United 5-1 in the Carabao Cup. Even though Dominik Szoboszlai’s incredible goal gave the team a 1-0 lead at the interval, Klopp thought there was not enough energy in the fans.

After the break, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Curtis Jones all found the net to give Liverpool a convincing victory over the Hammers.

On Saturday, Liverpool will play Arsenal in a thrilling match at the top of the Premier League standings. Klopp has spared no effort to energise the Reds supporters before the match.

Speaking to reporters, Klopp said: “I thought in the first half when the boys played really exceptionally, I was not overly happy with the atmosphere behind me. I asked people what do they want? We changed a lot of things and we dominated West Ham like crazy and missed chances. If I was in the stands I would be on my toes, 1,000 per cent. I don’t know, if the Man United game was that bad that we have to say sorry we didn’t smash them?

“If it is too much football in December, if you are not in the right shape, give your ticket to somebody else. It was just not the excitement I felt. There were so many good performances but we were only 1-0 up.”

“We need Anfield on Saturday,” he said.

“Arsenal didn’t play this week. They’ve prepared for this game and anyone who knows anything about them knows they will be prepared. So we need Anfield on their toes from the first second, without me having an argument with the opposition coach.”

After the 0-0 tie with Manchester United, Gary Neville similarly blasted the mood at Anfield, calling it “the worst I’ve ever witnessed for a Liverpool-Manchester United game.”

Liverpool will play Fulham in the semi-finals in an attempt to win the Carabao Cup for the tenth time, and the winner will get to play in the championship game at Wembley.

If the Blues defeat Middlesbrough in the round of sixteen, Klopp stated that his team “want to go there again”—a sign that he is already keeping a watch on the Wembley date. The date of the final is set for February 25.
