The league was started in 1993

J1 League is a Japanese top-division league and features a lot of foreign superstars. The league starts in February and action continues till November end or December start.

This is the 30th edition of the elite competition and only two teams (Kashima Antlers & Yokohama F. Marinos) have played in every season in the top flight. Kashima Antlers have been the most successful club with the most wins and eight championship titles. Yokohama F. Marinos just sits behind them with five championship wins in total. Kawasaki Frontale completes the top three with four wins.

Andreas Iniesta, David Villa, Fernando Torres, and a few other players have also featured in the Japanese first division. Iniesta is currently playing for Vissel Kobe. The league has also attracted players from South America, Africa, and other continents as well.

Format of the competition

J1 League started with 10 teams and now 18 teams fight for the prestigious title in Japan. From next season, the league will feature 20 clubs. This season only one team will be relegated to the J2 League. There will be a lot of competition from next season.

How many Indian players have played in J1 League?

Not a lot of Indian players are famous for playing outside of India. Only one Indian player has ever played in the J1 League. Arata Izumi, a Japanese-born Indian player represented Mitsubishi Mizushima FC in 2006. He played 25 games for the club and scored a goal. Other than this, he had nine appearances for India in 2013-14.

Where and how to watch J1 League 2023?

J1 League matches are telecasted in India by the FanCode app. They had the rights to show the matches last season and once again FanCode took the rights of showing the Japanese league. There is a subscription pass and only selected matches are streamed on the platform.
