Matchday 2 of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 produced a few shocking results.

The excitement of the AFC Asian Cup reached new heights during Matchday 2, as teams showcased their best performances on the field. From Khalid Eisa stealing the spotlight with an exceptional goalkeeping display, to Son Heung-min‘s goal and celebration, every player added a touch of brilliance to the spectacle. 

With thrilling displays of talent and moments of sheer brilliance, Matchday 2 undoubtedly lived up to the expectations. Here’s Khel Now’s Team of Matchday 2:

Goalkeeper: Khalid Eisa (United Arab Emirates)

Eisa emerged as the standout player for the UAE as Palestine relentlessly peppered his goal with shot after shot. Despite facing a barrage of attempts, Eisa showcased exceptional goalkeeping prowess, conceding only one goal against Palestine. His outstanding performance extended beyond that, as he went on to save every subsequent shot directed at him. 

Left-back: Ahmed Al Kaabi (Oman)

Ahmed Al Kaabi delivered a standout performance in Oman’s Group F match against Thailand, particularly excelling in his role of guarding the left flank. His adept defensive skills were on full display as he effectively kept the Thailand attackers at bay throughout. 

Centre-back: Rebin Sulaka (Iraq)

Iraq’s formidable performance against Japan not only highlighted their potent attack but also showcased a resolute defence that successfully thwarted Japan’s offensive efforts. Among the key players who played a pivotal role in holding off the Japanese players was Rebin Sulaka.

Centre-back: Thaer Krouma (Syria)

Despite Syria’s setback in their second Group B match against Australia, their defensive prowess remained a standout feature in this AFC Asian Cup edition. Thaer Krouma has particularly shone as a star performer in the defence, showcasing his skills and resilience. Despite the defeat, Krouma’s contributions have played a crucial role in maintaining a top-notch defence for Syria throughout the tournament. 

Right-back: Asnawi Mangkualam (Indonesia)

In an impressive display against Vietnam, Indonesia showcased a remarkable performance, with standout player Asnawi Mangkualam taking centre stage. Serving as the team’s right-back and captain, Mangkualam distinguished himself by scoring the solitary goal from the spot-kick just before half-time, providing his team with a crucial lead. 

Central Defensive Midfielder: Mohamed Kanno (Saudi Arabia)

Saudi Arabia concluded Matchday 2 with a triumphant victory against Kyrgyz Republic, and the standout feature was the spectacular performance from Saudi’s midfield. Among the stellar contributors, Mohamed Kanno shone as one of the team’s star performers. Not only did he find the back of the net, securing a goal, but he also played a pivotal role in giving his team the lead. 

Central Midfielder: Faisel Al Ghamdi (Saudi Arabia)

Adding to Saudi Arabia’s midfield brilliance, Al Ghamdi emerged as another standout performer. His impactful presence was felt as he not only scored a goal but also displayed an active and dynamic gameplay throughout the match.

In a commanding display against Tajikistan, Qatar’s standout athlete Akram Afif, assumed a crucial role, securing the sole goal in the 17th minute. With this achievement, Afif’s goal tally reached an impressive three, positioning him as the current top-scorer at the ongoing AFC Asian Cup. 

Right Winger: Aymen Hussein (Iraq)

Iraq sent shockwaves through the world with a stunning victory over Japan in an exhilarating Group D match, triumphing with a 2-1 scoreline, courtesy of a remarkable brace from Aymen Hussein. His stellar performance not only secured a pivotal win for Iraq but also propelled him to a shared position atop the goalscoring charts with Akram Afif.
