The Indian football team will be playing the most important game of the competition and all eyes will be on who Stimac names in the starting XI against Syria .
Khel Now brings you the predicted XI for this important AFC Asian Cup 2023 clash.
Goalkeeper: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, despite two very average performances in the last two games, brings his wealth of experience and commanding presence to the goal. Known for his shot-stopping abilities and leadership on the field, Sandhu will play a crucial role in organizing the defense.
Right-back: Nikhil Poojary
Nikhil Poojary, operating from the right-back position, is expected to provide defensive solidity while contributing to attacking plays with his pace and overlapping runs. His ability to track back swiftly and join the attack makes him a valuable asset.
Centre-back: Sandesh Jhingan
Sandesh Jhingan, a rock in the heart of the defense, is known for his physicality, aerial prowess, and ability to read the game. He had a very poor outing against Uzbekistan and it seemed he had no communication with his fellow defenders. With a fresh start, he is set to play a pivotal role in thwarting Syrian attacks and maintaining defensive stability.
Centre-back: Rahul Bheke
Partnering Jhingan, Rahul Bheke is expected to showcase his defensive skills and composure. Bheke’s ball-playing abilities and composure under pressure will be crucial in building from the back.
Left-back: Akash Mishra
Operating as the left-back, Akash Mishra is expected to combine his defensive capabilities with his attacking contributions. Mishra’s ability to whip in accurate crosses and support the attack down the left flank adds versatility to India’s gameplay.
Central Defensive Midfielder: Apuia
Apuia has had a better tournament than any of his teammates. Yet again, he is expected to hold the fort in the central defensive midfield position, and will be tasked with breaking down opposition attacks and distributing the ball efficiently. His work rate, tackling ability, and vision make him a vital component in shielding the defense.
Central Midfielder: Suresh Singh Wangjam
Suresh Singh Wangjam is expected to play a box-to-box role in the midfield, providing energy, dynamism, and ball-winning capabilities. He is expected to do well against Syria with his ability to cover ground and link up play.
Right Winger: Rahul KP
Rahul KP, stationed on the right wing, is a dynamic and pacey winger who can stretch the opposition defense. In his previous two cameos, he was the pick of the Indian attackers and posed a threat with his pace.
Attacking Midfielder: Brandon Fernandes
Operating in the attacking midfield role, Brandon Fernandes is expected to be the creative force in the team. Known for his vision, passing accuracy, and set-piece expertise, Fernandes will be pivotal in unlocking the Syrian defense.
Left Winger: Naorem Mahesh Singh
Naorem Mahesh Singh, deployed on the left wing, possesses flair and technical ability. His ability to cut inside, take on defenders, and contribute to goal-scoring opportunities adds an extra dimension to India’s attack.
Striker: Sunil Chhetri
Leading the line for India will be the iconic Sunil Chhetri, who might play the most important game of his career. He brings his wealth of experience, goal-scoring prowess, and leadership qualities to the forefront. Chhetri’s clinical finishing and ability to inspire the team make him a talismanic figure.
