The last time UAE defeated Iran was back in 1997.

Iran football team became the third side at the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to confirm a place in the Round-of-16 after their 1-0 win over Hong Kong in the last match. The title favourites began their campaign with a 4-1 triumph over Palestine in their opening game.

Next up, they will face the second strongest team in their group UAE in the final group stage match. UAE also started their campaign with a 3-1 win over Hong Kong but were held to a 1-1 draw against Palestine in the last match.
