Almoez Ali of Qatar was the Golden Boot winner in AFC Asian Cup 2019.
Bartolome Marquez’s Qatar will be entering the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup as the defending champions as well as the being the host nation. Qatar have always believed in an organized and aggressive style of play, even under pressure.
Being one of the most anticipated teams in Asian football, fans will be hoping to see them defend their title this time. With less than 10 days left for the tournament to kick off, Marquez’s 26-player squad has been announced by the hosts.
The squad looks firm and the likes of Almoez Ali partnering up with Akram Afif and Hassan Al Haydos will add to the woes of the opposition’s backlines. Qatar have been drawn into Group A alongside nations like China PR, Tajikistan, and Lebanon, out of which, the China PR test is going to be an enthralling one to watch out for.
When Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup 2022, they were drawn into Group A along with Ecuador, Netherlands, and Senegal. The Maroons failed to secure a win in any of their three Group stage games. Their only goal in the tournament came against Senegal when Muhammad Muntari found the back of the net in the 78th minute of the game. On the contrary, Qatar have always been on the dominating side when Asian tournaments are a concern.
