Lionel Messi won The Best FIFA Men’s Player award for his heroics.

FIFA’s official award ceremony was held in London last night. During the ceremony, coaches and players from both men’s and women’s football were elected for their extraordinary performances in the year gone by. The 2023 FIFA Men’s Awards selection criteria were predicated on accomplishments from December 19, 2022, until August 20, 2023. 

The winners were selected by an international jury comprising the current coaches of all women’s and men’s national teams, the captains of all women’s and men’s national teams, one specialist journalist from each territory represented by a national team and fans from all over the globe registered on FIFA’s website.

World Champion and Inter Miami skipper Lionel Messi won The Best FIFA Men’s Player award for his heroics. And 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Aitana Bonmati won the The Best FIFA Women’s Player award.

Brazilian shot stopper Ederson Moraes won the The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award while England and Manchester United keeper Mary Earps won The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper award.

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola won The Best FIFA Men’s Coach award and England’s Sarina Wiegman was adjudged as The Best FIFA Women’s Coach. The FIFA Puskas award was won by Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Madruga.

On that note, let us take a look at who India’s captain Sunil Chhetri voted for at the Best FIFA awards 2023.

The Best FIFA Men’s Player award

Indian football team skipper Sunil Chhetri’s first pick was Manchester City and Norway star Erling Haaland followed by Manchester City’s Spanish midfielder Rodri. And he casted his third vote for Napoli’s Nigerian goal-machine Victor Osimhen.

The Best FIFA Men’s Coach award

Sunil Chhetri voted eventual winner Pep Guardiola for this category. His second vote was for Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou and his third one went to Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti.

Notably, Indian football team head coach Igor Stimac voted for Rodri, Julian Alvarez and Kevin De Bruyne. Meanwhile, journalist Dhiman Sarkar opted for Haaland, De Bruyne and Osimhen.
