The second semi-final of the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup will see the defending Indian Super League (ISL) league shield champions Mumbai City FC face off against the 2023 Super Cup winners Odisha FC in what is guaranteed to be a thrilling clash at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on Thursday (January 25).

The two ISL heavyweights have both won all their matches leading up to the semi-final, topping respective groups, and will now look to bring the very best to the table to progress to the final and take a step forward to securing continental football for the 2024-25 campaign.

Jorge Pereyra Diaz (Mumbai City)

Jorge Pereyra Diaz has received a lot of rest in the Super Cup, only playing just over 120 minutes of football. But he has been reserved for the knockout games and will be now be unleashed at his fittest in the Odisha game. The Argentine forward’s abilities are unquestioned, having scored six goals in 11 ISL games this season and having 18 goal contributions in the 2022-23 campaign.

Diaz is a menace in the opposition half, having the tendency to drop defenders out of positions and also creating chances. But his strongest skill is his impressive finishing ability, which he looks to put to use by getting into key goal-scoring areas against the Juggernauts.

Ahmed Jahouh (Odisha FC)

Ahmed Jahouh will be determined to torment his former side in this huge cup clash and prove why they were wrong to offload him so easily last year. He will probably have to be best in this game, where a lot of the key battles will take place in midfield.

Jahouh has to be agile and alert in protecting his backline from trouble, winning the ball in important positions and helping his side retain possession and transition it forward efficiently. Jahouh will also look to cause trouble with his excellent set-pieces and long passes, while also making sneaky runs into the final third to test the goalkeepers.
