Kalinga Super Cup 2024: Odisha FC's road to final

Odisha FC are the defending champions of the Kalinga Super Cup.

The reigning champions, Odisha FC, have once again secured a spot in the Kalinga Super Cup final, this time at their home ground, the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. In 2023, they emerged victorious over Bengaluru FC with a score of 2-1, claiming their first-ever trophy in the form of the Super Cup. 

Odisha FC’s performance has been a collective effort by the team, with Ahmed Jahouh, Diego Mauricio, and Mourtada Fall each contributing two goals in the four matches they have played so far.

This season, the team is currently enjoying a remarkable period of success. They are currently on a 15-match unbeaten run, which commenced with a victory over Bengaluru FC in the ISL on October 31, 2023.

Odisha FC’s road to the Kalinga Super Cup 2024 final

Odisha FC were grouped together with FC Goa, Inter Kashi, and Bengaluru FC in Group D. They emerged victorious against each of their opponents to advance to the semi-finals. In the semis, they secured a victory against Mumbai City FC, earning them a spot in the final.

Match 1 – Bengaluru FC 

In their first match of the tournament on January 12, 2024, Odisha FC defeated Bengaluru FC 1-0. The sole goal came from midfield maestro Ahmed Jahouh and helped them add three crucial points to their tally.

Match 2 – Inter Kashi

In the second match on January 17, 2024, Odisha FC secured a 3-0 victory against I-League side Inter Kashi. The goals were scored by Puitea, Diego Mauricio, and Isak Vanlalruatfela, enabling Odisha FC to maintain their position at the top of the table.

Match 3 – FC Goa

They competed against FC Goa on January 22, 2024, in their final group stage fixture. The match unfolded as a fiercely contested battle between the two teams, as neither showed any signs of relenting. Odisha’s goals came from Mourtada Fall (2) and Ahmed Jahouh. Although FC Goa attempted to get back into the game, they were unable to do so within the allotted time and ultimately lost the match with one goal deficit (3-2).

Match 4 – Mumbai City FC (Semi-final)

The second semi-final match, which took place on January 25, 2024, featured another intense battle on the field. However, it was Diego Mauricio’s solitary goal that made the difference, propelling the Juggernauts to secure a consecutive spot in the tournament’s final.

Match 5 – East Bengal FC (Final)

Odisha FC will face East Bengal FC on January 28, 2024, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
