Indian Embassy in Qatar urges fans to turn up in 'large numbers' at AFC Asian Cup

India are topping the charts for ticket sales at the AFC Asian Cup.
In a passionate appeal on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Indian Embassy in Qatar has called upon the Indian diaspora and football enthusiasts to rally behind the Indian national football team as they gear up for the highly anticipated AFC Asian Cup 2023 in Qatar.
The embassy’s message resonated with enthusiasm, urging fans to turn out in large numbers and support the ‘Blue Tigers’ during their Group B clashes against Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria on January 13, 18, and 23, respectively.
The official tweet from the embassy read, “Indian national team gearing up for the Asian Cup AFC 2023 in Doha. Let’s cheer and support the blue tigers on 13, 18 and 23 January in large numbers!”
The rallying call is expected to create a buzz within the Indian community in Qatar, fostering a sense of unity and pride as the nation’s football heroes prepare to represent the tricolour on the international stage.
India find themselves in a challenging Group B alongside football powerhouses Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria. The opening match on January 13 will see the Indian team face off against Australia, a formidable opponent that will test the side’s mettle. The subsequent matches on January 18 against Uzbekistan and January 23 against Syria promise to be equally intense encounters, showcasing the competitive spirit of Asian football.
India’s preparations
The Indian football team started their preparation in Doha last week and are gearing up for their first game against Australia. National team head coach Igor Stimac shared the plan of the team’s preparation upon reaching Qatar and stated, “We will have nine football training sessions on the pitch. So, the training schedule is organised with the two working days, four sessions, followed by the rest third day. So, that will be our schedule until the first game. We are going to have one game between us on the 7th, just six days prior to the first game, to see where we stand at the moment.”
