The first-leg of this AFC Champions League tie saw Jeonbuk secure a comfortable two-goal margin.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will be fired up despite holding a two-goal advantage when they play fellow Korea Republic side Pohang Steelers in their AFC Champions League 2023/24 Round of 16 second leg tie on Tuesday.

Jeonbuk are well placed to advance to the AFC Champions League quarter-finals for the 11th time since 2004 after their 2-0 win in the first leg.

The first leg, however, was not without repercussions to the two-time AFC Champions League winners with Hernandez – who scored once, Lee Soo-bin and Kim Tae-hwan all suffering injuries which required substitutions.

With the domestic season yet to kick off, head coach Dan Petrescu will have to find players who can be competitive should the injured trio not recover in time.

If losing the first leg was not bad enough, Pohang also had to contend with the fact that they only attempted attempted six shots, their lowest in an AFC Champions League match since their defeat to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in the 2021 final.

Confidence, however, is not something Pohang will be lacking after having beaten Jeonbuk in the Korean FA Cup final last season.

Pohang Steelers (KOR) v Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC (Kor)

Venue: Pohang Steel Yard (Pohang)

Kick-off: Tuesday, 19:00 (UTC+9)
