A new record was created in this ISL fixture.

It seems Mumbai City FC are starting to find their rhythm under their new manager. The Islanders have now won three back-to-back ISL games under Petr Kratky and now look inevitable as we enter the final few weeks of the league stage fixtures.

With this win, the defending Shield winners have now gone on level terms with table toppers Odisha FC with 31 points from 15 matches. It was Mumbai’s ninth win of the season and they’ve made it very clear that they are very much in the title race.

The game began with Chennaiyin FC showing great signs of domination and wanting to score. The Marina Machans were clearly the better side in the first half, so much so that Akash Mishra had to make an important goal-line clearance to keep the scoreline level at the end of the first half.

In the early minutes of the second half, Mumbai City FC’s latest recruit Thaer Krouma was brought down inside the box by Lazar Cirkovic and the referee pointed to the spot. Lallianzuala Chhangte stepped up to take the spot-kick but skied it away, resulting in a wasted opportunity for the Islanders.

Bipin Singh was introduced by Kratky in the 68th minute and the winger found the back of the net with a sublime finish in the 71st minute following an excellent cross from Iker Guarrotxena. Chennaiyin FC tried everything they could, but Mumbai City FC were too good. In the 91st minute, Iker Guarrotxena shifted the ball from the left flank to the right towards Bipin.

Bipin yet again stepped up to the opportunity and produced an iconic goal as Debjit Majumder could just watch the ball caress the net. It was an incredible and impactful cameo from Bipin Singh which helped Mumbai City FC complete the league double over Chennaiyin FC.
