Sergio Lobera is not taking Chennaiyin lightly and believes them to be a tough opposition.
Odisha FC are slated to face Chennaiyin FC in an Indian Super League (ISL) fixture on March 3, 2024, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai
This will be Odisha’s 18th match of the 2023-24 Indian Super League, while Chennaiyin FC will be playing their 17th match. Upon reviewing the points table, it becomes apparent that Odisha FC holds a favorable position and aims to maintain their performance in the upcoming match.
Ahead of the upcoming match, Odisha FC’s head coach Sergio Lobera, and player Jerry Lalrinzuala attended the pre-match press conference. They addressed the media’s inquiries and offered valuable insights into their approach for the upcoming match.
Approach towards the game
Although Odisha FC are sitting high on the table, still every game is important for them to achieve the ISL Shield.
When a question was raised regarding the team’s approach against Chennaiyin FC, coach Sergio Lobera replied, “It’s a very important game for us. Although we secured a big win in the last game, now we have to compete well against Chennai as they are a difficult team to play against.”
Intensity of the points table
If we look at the standings, it is evident that several teams are performing exceptionally well and are poised to put forth their best efforts in upcoming matches to secure the top position. Odisha FC must exercise caution in maintaining their current position, as a slight oversight could result in a significant loss.
“Every game from now to the end of the season is like a final. But we should feel the pressure, we shall work with excitement. It’s the hard work of the team that has helped us to reach this position this season. So, we just need to enjoy the moment,” Sergio stated.
Officials working hard
Odisha FC has been participating in a series of matches within a condensed time frame. Managing the readiness of the players for the crucial games during this period presents a significant challenge for the medical team. Coach Sergio Lobera has expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the medical staff and fitness coaches, as he said, “I’m very proud of my staff, they are doing an amazing job. We have a good team of fitness coaches and medical staff who look after the players off the pitch. Due to this, the players recover quickly.”
Importance of the game
Jerry Lalrinzuala, who attended the press conference was questioned about the importance of the game. He said, “As the coach said, every game is now a final for us. We will surely look to perform well and try to win the match.”
