The Iranian outfit beat the Gaurs in their third group match of the AFC Champions League.
Persepolis came from behind to beat FC Goa 2-1 at the Fatorda Stadium in the AFC Champions League, their third consecutive victory in the competition from as many games. Having secured all nine points in Group E so far, Yahya Golmohammadi and his side are five points clear at the top of the table and look well-placed to advance to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
A penalty from Mehdi Torabi quickly followed by another goal from Jalal Hosseini saw the Persian Gulf Pro League side overcome Edu Bedia's early strike for the Gaurs.
"As a head coach, I expected a tough match. After conceding the first goal we regained concentration and started to control the match. The players never surrendered, so I really appreciate them for showing good morality," Yahya Golmohammadi began.
The AFC Champions League 2020 runners-up bounced back from the early setback quite spectacularly, moving the ball around quickly and with their strikers, Shahriyar Moghanloo and Isa Alkasir creating problems for the Goan defenders.
Persepolis could've scored more, as they managed to carve out some good chances even in the final quarter of the match, but FC Goa remained firm, defending with deep blocks.
The former Iranian international said, "We could’ve scored more than just three goals but unfortunately, we lost some momentum towards the end.
"Three points in this group is difficult and our group is one of the toughest in the whole competition. So, hopefully, we’ll be able to continue in the same vein and I’d like to congratulate all the Persepolis fans tonight and also dedicate this victory to them," the tactician concluded.
