12:40 42 teams will be participating in the qualifiers. The format for the tournament will be centralised groups (nine groups of four teams and two groups of three teams). Group winners and runners up teams (total 11) will advance to the quarter finals.

The AFC U-23 Asian Cup, which will be organized between June 1-22, 2022 in Uzbekistan, will be the fifth edition of the tournament. South Korea, the defending champions will be participating in the tournament, along with 15 other teams.

India have never qualified for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup in their history. The closest they came to qualify for the tournament was in 2013, when they finished at the fourth place in qualification Group A, behind Iraq, UAE and Oman with 7 points.

The Indian football team had won two games, against Lebanon and Turkmenistan, during the qualifications in 2013. Apart from those two wins, the Blue Tigers have been able to win only one game in the next three editions of qualifying rounds, beating Turkmenistan in 2017.
