Aizawl FC are third on the I-league points table which is being led by East Bengal currently...

Ahead of Monday’s I-League clash between Aizawl FC and East Bengal, the northeastern club was accused of breaking pre-match protocol when an Aizawl number of staff was allegedly caught red-handed recording East Bengal’s training session in Aizawl on Sunday.

East Bengal, who are scheduled to face Aizawl FC in an away game at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Monday, were conducting a training session on Sunday when an East Bengal staff member noticed a person who looked to be recording the session on tape. The suspicious person was later apprehended by calling in the security but claimed not to be recording the practice session and also claimed not to be a part of the hosts contingent in any way.

Aizawl FC began their opening fixture in the I-League this year against East Bengal and courtesy of a late goal by East Bengal defender Ivan Bukenya, they had to satisfy themselves with only one point in the last meeting between these two clubs.

On being quizzed by Khel Now, an East Bengal official revealed that the apprehended person was a former member of the Mumbai FC managerial team, who followed head coach Khalid Jamil to Aizawl when the Kuwait-born coach moved to the Mizoram-based club. The East Bengal official also revealed that a report had been filed to the match commissioner by the Kolkata-based club citing the incidents of the training session.

Aizawl FC have been regarded to be one of the fairest teams in the league this year. However, if investigated by the AIFF, the Mizoram-based club might be losing their recognition of playing fair and square following the incident earlier on Sunday. Aizawl FC will be hosting visitors East Bengal at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Monday from 2 pm.
