The UEFA president is also optimistic on the continuation of the season after it is safe to play.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has expressed that Liverpool FC should be awarded the Premier League title and maintained the same will mostly be applied even if the season gets cancelled due to the ravaging coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking to Slovenian sports paper Ekipa, he said, "There is no way Liverpool could end without the title. If the matches are played then they will almost certainly win it, theoretically, they haven't won the title but they almost certainly will. In case the matches cannot be played, we need to find a way."

Ceferin added, "Once again, I see no scenario according to which Liverpool would not be the winners. I realise fans might be disappointed if the match is played in an empty stadium or even if it is resolved around a table, but I believe that one way or another they will win the title."

When asked to update about the situation surrounding the re-opening of other leagues across Europe as well as the continental competitions like the Champions League and the Europa League, Ceferin maintained that he was optimistic of them returning this season.

Ceferin replied, "I'm an optimist. Of course, there is nothing I can guarantee or promise. It all depends on the situation in those countries, it will all depend on whether the circumstances are safe enough so that by playing football nobody is in danger."

Ceferin said these on the back of some major happenings in leagues across Europe with Belgium being the first country to close down its league due to the concerns and awarding top-placed Club Brugge the title while others are looking to follow suit. The top-5 leagues have all been suspended indefinitely and there is still no clarity on the date of return to action.
