The fixtures for Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21 season were announced on Friday. Accordingly, the much-anticipated Kolkata Derby will be on show in the opening month itself. The ‘new normal’ season will begin with ATK Mohun Bagan taking on Kerala Blasters – one of the most engaging matches in the history of the league. Following the announcement of the fixtures, the Mariners’ head coach Antonio Habas expressed his views especially keeping in mind the Derby fixture.
The Spaniard quoted, “We are here to play against not only East Bengal but all the other nine teams. So the fixture doesn’t matter as we are preparing ourselves for every encounter.”
Moreover, two-time title-winning coach, Antonio Habas, went on to add, “After coaching in Kolkata for the last few years, I am sound about the emotion that our supporters share for the derby. But we are treating this match just like any other match of the league and are determined to bag full points from both the legs.”
The Derby is expected to be one of the most exciting fixtures this season with both sides boasting of some rather experienced names in Indian football. The key battle between ATK Mohun Bagan’s Sandesh Jhingan and SC East Bengal’s Jeje Lalpekhlua will be one to definitely watch out for.
ATK Mohun Bagan are the first team to start their preparations in Goa with full squad. The three-time ISL champions will face arch-rivals SC East Bengal in their second game of the season which will also be their counterparts’ debut game in the league. The 120th edition of Kolkata Derby will take place on 27th November 2020 at the Tilak Maidan – the first-time ever in the ISL.
