The Red Devils are heavy favourites to win tonight’s Round of 32 clash.

Belgium take on Senegal in a Round of 32 fixture in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, on July 1. The Red Devils qualified as the Group G winners and will be favourites against Senegal, who managed to get through as one of the eight best third-placed sides.

The Red Devils began their campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw with Egypt. Emam Ashour’s opener was cancelled by an own goal from Mohamed Hany, rescuing a point for the European side. The result did not improve in the next match against Iran, which ended in a goalless draw. Nathan Ngoy saw a red card as well.

Rudi Garcia’s men finally bounced back on the last matchday, beating New Zealand 5-1. Leandro Trossard scored twice, while Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, and Alexis Saelemaekers also found the back of the net.

Belgium (4-2-3-1): Thibaut Courtois; Timothy Castagne, Brandon Mechele, Arthur Theate, Maxim De Cuyper; Youri Tielemans (c), Hans Vanaken; Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne, Leandro Trossard; Charles De Ketelaere.

Substitutes: Mike Panders (gk), Senne Lammens (gk), Koni De Winter, Matias Fernandez-Pardo, Romelu Lukaku, Dodi Lukebakio, Thomas Meunier, Diego Moreira, Nathan Ngo, Amadou Onana, Nicolas Raskin, Alexis Saelemaekers, Joaquin Seys, Axel Witsel.

Thoughts on the lineup

Thibaut Courtois is the undisputed No. 1 for club and country and retains his place between the sticks. Sporting CP defender Zeno Debast remains a fitness doubt, having recently returned to training after a leg injury. As a result, Arthur Theate is paired with Brandon Mechele in central defence. Timothy Castagne and Maxim De Cuyper start as full-backs.

Youri Tielemans and Hans Vaneken start in midfield, with the latter being preferred over Amadou Onana. Despite being 35 years old, Kevin De Bruyne has been superb for his side in the World Cup and starts in an advanced role.

Manchester City speedster Jeremy Doku starts on the right wing, with Leandro Trossard starting on the left. Romelu Lukaku, who returned to goal-scoring form in the last game, remains on the bench, with Charles De Ketelaere being preferred in the centre-forward role.
