Bruno Fernandes: I liked to watch and follow Andres Iniesta
The midfielder joined the Red Devils in the January transfer window of this season.
Bruno Fernandes has impressed the Old Trafford faithful with his sublime performances since his arrival at Manchester United in January. The midfielder has scored thrice and assisted four goals in his nine appearances and thereby looks set to achieve greater feats with the Red Devils in the future.
The 25-year-old revealed that he carves his game around that of Andres Iniesta in a Q&A session on the club’s website. He remarked, “The one I liked to watch and follow was Iniesta, because Iniesta is a mix between an eight and a 10. It is a way I can do better, between eight and 10."
“It is the guy who always likes to have the ball, who always likes to take the risks, and I think Iniesta was one of the best in the world.” Fernandes continued, “For me, it was impressive how Iniesta finished his career without the Ballon d'Or [award]. With everything he won, it is difficult for me to understand.”
The Spaniard maestro had in fact finished second in the Ballon d’Or race in 2010. In 2012, he claimed the third spot. On both the occasions, Iniesta’s FC Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi had emerged victorious with the award.
Bruno Fernandes further explained that characteristic which best defines him as a footballer. He mentioned, “Warrior, because for me every game is a battle. You need to go out to the game and just understand you need to beat your opponent."
The former Sporting CP midfielder also said, “With all of the respect, because you need to have respect for your opponent, but you need to beat them. If you don't beat them, they will beat you.” Furthermore, he stated that he doesn’t care whether he has his friends playing against him in the Premier League. “At that moment, I will be the biggest enemy they can have,” Fernandes concluded.
Manchester United are currently placed in the fifth spot in the Premier League points table. They are three points behind Chelsea, who have occupied the fourth spot in the standings. The season has been suspended for the time being due to the COVID-19 outbreak across the world, which has had its fair share of impact in England too.
