Bundesliga: DFB extends German transfer deadline
The German governing body has decided to allow trading of players from 15th July 2020.
The DFB board has decided to make changes to the upcoming transfer window for licensed and contracted players. The background to the changes is the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on football matches.
"Because of the coronavirus crisis and the resulting shifts in seasons, national and international adjustments to the transfer windows are necessary, so that the previous period [1 July to 31 August 2020] had to be updated. We have now made this adjustment together with the DFL and in coordination with FIFA," said Peter Frymuth, DFB Vice President for Match Operations and Football Development.
The result of the joint vote, also in conjunction with the DFL Presidium, is a split and extended transfer period. Accordingly, the transfer window will be open on 1 July 2020 for a single day (change period I.1) and from 15 July to 5 October 2020 (change period I.2).
The first, one-day transfer period is primarily intended for the registration of contracts that have already been concluded with licensed and contracted players with a contract beginning on 1 July 2020. A playing permit will only be issued with effect for the 2020/21 season. The second phase of the transfer window will be extended due to the later conclusion of the 2019/20 season - after 1 July in other associations/leagues - and the later start of competitive games organised by the DFB and DFL in the 2020/21 season, so that all clubs, domestic and international, have the flexibility to make transfers for as long as possible.
The DFB board is also following a recommendation of the UEFA Executive Committee, which has called on all member associations to recognise 5 October 2020 as the common end date for the upcoming summer transfer window because the deadline for registering players for the group stage of UEFA club competitions in 2020/21 was set for 6 October 2020.
