Allwyn Vaz scored the all-important goal of the match.

Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim earned their first points as they downed Churchill Brothers 1-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

Churchill started without their start striker Uttam Rai as the striker was nursing a hamstring injury. Abhishek Rawat replaced him in the starting XI. Whereas Cavelossim coach Severino Fernandes made three changes to his side as Sarabjit, Samson Simoes and Allwyn Vaz made the cut.

Cavelossim who had lost their last two matches started the match on attacking note as marched on the opponents. They almost opened the tally in the 6th minutes when their skipper Asley Araujo brilliantly curled the ball in the goal from the corner but Churchill keeper Ricardo Cardozo pushed it away for the safety.

A couple of minutes later, Churchill’s Alber Gonsalves dribbles past two defenders in the box and tried his luck from inside the box but his striker missed the target narrowly.

In the last few minutes of the first half, Cavelossim once again tried to control the match with continues attacks and finally found one in the added time when Richard Fernandes sent a perfect cross at the far post to Allwyn, who just headed in from close to take his side into the lead at the breather.

On changing the ends, Churchill came out stronger and showed urgency in the finding the net. They had the best chance to equalise in the 56th minutes when Janak Kudmal found Alber in the box with a curling cross but the midfielder headed wide.

At the other end, Cavelossim’s Samson made a darting run cutting past few but his powerful shot was nicely blocked by Churchill keeper Ricardo.

Ten minutes later Samson had another chance from the top of the box but he failed to control his shot as his striker missed the target, while Rohan Kamble saw his curling free-kick nicely fisted over the crossbar by Churchill keeper Ricardo.

In the added time of the match, Cavelossim U-20 Cayven Araujo got the marching orders following his rough tackle on Israil Gurung.

In the dying minutes of the match, Churchill tried hard to find the equaliser but Cavelossim defender made no mistake to clear every danger.
