Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao hold FC Bardez Goa to a draw in the Goa Pro League

The Bardez outfit dropped points for second time in a row…

Newly signed Nigerian striker Joel Sunday scored an 80th minutes goal to rescue to rescue a point for FC Bardez Goa as they registered a hard fought 1-1 draw against Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao in the Goa Pro League match played at Duler Stadium on Wednesday. CSM Taleigoa Coach Pascoal Pereira made two changes to his side as Shawyn Fernandes and Ramesh Palkar found their name in the playing XI, while Bardez were without Peter Carvalho who was serving a suspension due to dobble booking in last matches . However their centre-back Mathew Gonsalves was back in the starting XI after after missing out in the last match for the same reason. Sunday started from the bench. Bardez had drawn their last match against Guardian Angel SC, while Taleigao also had a similar result in the last match as they played a hard fought draw against Corps of Signals. Bardez started the match in attacking mood and marched many times into the opponent’s area but as the match progress they started to irritate Taleigao players by keeping the ball. In the 8th minute of the match Bardez were awarded a free-kick 30 yards from the Taleigao’s goal, but Alesh Sawant’s kick missed the target by few centimeters. Once again Bardez came close to scoring but this time Taleigao keeper Rohan Sheikh came up with a brilliant save to deny Girish Naik’s header. At the other end suprisingly Taleigao took the lead when Gopi Gad’s lofted shot from the edge of the box crashed into the net making 1-0 for the team in Purple. Boosted by a goal Taleigao marched twice on their opponents’goal but failed to finish. Down by a goal Bardez regrouped and again started building pressure on Taleigao when they found a free-kick just out side the box but like last time Alesh’s kick was blocked by defender Krishnanath Shirodkar. To increase the pressure on their opponents, Bardez introduced their newly signed Nigerian striker Sunday who replaced Sarineo Fernandes. Five minutes before the halftime whistle, Taleigao’s Gourav Kankonkar tried to find Pramod Mardolkar in the box but Bardez keeper Bilal Khan collected it on time. The Bardez boss made one more change at the halftime by bringing on Koko Sakibo in place of Myron Mendes. As soon as he was in, he combined well with Sunday for a one-two in the box, but the striker failed to keep his placement on target from close range. In the 67th minute fans were overjoyed to see Climax Lawrence comming in for Kirtikesh Gadekar. Taleigao keeper Rohan was again in actions he came up with two excellent saves . First to deny Richard Costa’s strike and later block Climax Lawrence’s shot from an acute angle. Finally in the 80th minute Taleigao’s keeper made a mistake in trying to collect Alesh’s free-kick from the left flank and Sunday took the advantage of the keepr’s error to tap the ball in the back of the Taleigao nylons to make it 1-1 for Bardez. In the dying minutes of the of the match Gopi once again stunned Bardez supporters by finding the net, but the striker failed to beat the offside trap and saw his effort cancelled out by the linesman. Bardez Coach Armando Colaco was disapointed with his team’s performance and said, “In the first half we went to sleep but came back into the game in the second half.
