The Goans are coming off back-to-back defeats…

FC Goa travel to Marina Arena in search of their first win of the third edition of the Indian Super League, and their coach Zico admitted that his personnel were lacking confidence, during the pre-match press conference.

The Gaurs are winless in two games, losing to NorthEast United and Pune City, but Zico refused to put any passive pressure upon his players as he lauded his team’s creativity. Acknowledging the lack of goals, he stated an injection of confidence would result in his lads scoring more goals.

“We are working in training but, even in the first season, we scored only two goals in the first two games,” reminded Zico.

“You can see the first two matches. We created so many chances. I think we’re playing well, but the goalkeepers of the opposition teams were the best players on the pitch in both game. The goals aren’t coming yet. We created so much. We’re playing so good and we’re missing only the confidence to score goals.”

When asked about injuries, he denied revealing names as he said he would know of the availability of his players only after the final training session that took place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Wednesday night.

Goa controversially deemed Subhasish Chowdhury unfit to start against the Super Machans only for the ISL officials to rubbish their claims after assessing the former Indian international goalkeeper. Zico claimed that he had his first full training session since signing him only in the wake of returning from Mumbai, where the medical took place.

“I cannot say anything now,” said Zico. “We still have one practice session left. After that session, we’ll get to know which players are available.

“He is practicing now; he was approved by the ISL doctors. Before that, he was not training and after that he has returned to training. When we get the opportunity, we will put him to play.”

Chennaiyin are also heading into the game with the aim of securing their first win of the campaign after salvaging a point against Atletico de Kolkata and being humbled 3-1 at home by Delhi Dynamos. When quizzed about the preparation ahead of facing the champions, he resorted to a rather low profile answer as he stated that he hoped to play a good game tomorrow.

“We’re very prepared,” announced Zico. “We will play for a good result. If you look at the first two games, we did not play badly. We just did not get the result. We hope to play a good game .”

Goa’s last meeting with Chennaiyin was the Final of ISL 2015 that saw them lose 3-2 after leading by a goal until the final few minutes. However, revenge is not on the cards, as far as Zico is concerned.

“I don’t think about the past. What is past is past. It doesn’t motivate me in any way,” signed off Zico.
