The Red and Gold have already retained the title...
East Bengal host Aryan in the last Calcutta Football League (CFL) encounter of this season at Barasat Stadium tomorrow. With a match in hand, East Bengal are already champions of the CFL after they defeated Mohammedan SC on Thursday. They touched the historic feat of winning the CFL title for the seventh consecutive time and a total of 38 times. The Red and Gold brigade will bear the services of their senior players in the likes of Mehtab Hossain, Gurwinder Singh, Dika, Bikash Jairu, Robert, Rahul Bheke and others for the last time as they will join their respective Indian Super League teams post the Aryan match. East Bengal will be without assistant coach Richard Dryden who left for England on Thursday night. Goalkeeping Coach Abhijit Mondal will look after the proceedings in the absence of Trevor Morgan and Dryden. East Bengal will miss the services of Rafique and Dong with injuries while Mehtab Hossain and Calum Angus are ruled out with two yellow cards in consecutive games. This gives the opportunity for Abhjit Mondal to try out a few youngsters in the likes of Prohlad Roy, Deepak Kumar, Kousik Sarkar and Samad Ali Mallick who did not get many opportunities in the league so far. On the other hand, Aryan who are fighting relegation would want to win the match to be in a safe-zone. They would depend on the duo of Kazeem and Moses up front for the goals while Emmanuel will lead the defense. Abhijit Mondal said, "We want to win the match to make a clean sweep of wins and touch the feat of 1977 when we won the league without a loss or a draw."Report by Khel Now Correspondent Rony.
