The win helped the Men of Steel remain in the race for the playoffs.
Jamshedpur FC came back to winning ways after they spoiled the party for Mumbai City FC in their quest for the top spot. While this win might be a little too late for Owen Coyle and his men, but still it will lift their morale.
Reflections on victory
Head coach Owen Coyle who was evidently delighted with the result shared his thoughts on the game. "It was a great victory and we deserved it. Right from the first whistle to the last, we were the dominant team and we controlled the game. We scored two goals, but could have scored even more with the wonderful chances we had, it is a credit to the players. Even in the last game against ATK Mohun Bagan, we should have never lost that game.
"So, we have been playing well and winning games. Obviously, it was great to get three points and finish the season strongly. We have shown remarkable improvement from last season and that's what we will continue to do moving forward," Coyle said at the post-match press conference.
True potential of Jamshedpur FC unlocked?
When quizzed whether this win shows his team's true potential, Owen Coyle highlighted the difficulties and misfortunes that he had throughout the season.
"I think we played really well tonight and at different times we have done that. We have been hampered by a lot of things starting with injuries, as we only had seven foreign players available in the last two or three weeks. Prior to that, we only had five going into the off-season, with the injuries to David Grande and Nicholas Fitzgerald. So, obviously that has been a challenge.
"But, if you take one moment of isolation and check the match against FC Goa, where we scored the goal in the 89th minute, had that been given then we would have been three points ahead of them. So, big moments sometimes go against you and they say things even themselves out, but I can assure you that they don't."
Jackichand & Farukh had nothing to prove
The Scotsman did not buy the idea of Farukh Choudhury having a point to prove against his former team. He said, "I don't think Farukh (Choudhury) had any point to prove, even Jacki did not have any point to prove. They are both wonderful players. Obviously, when you are playing against your former team people say there is something to prove, but I think everyone knows their quality.
"I am delighted with what Farukh has done, he has so much potential and a lot more to learn. The more we work with him the better he will get."
Being underdogs gives JFC an edge?
Jamshedpur have been very good against the top two teams this season. However, they have struggled to beat the teams from the bottom half of the table. When questioned whether being the underdogs gives them an edge, Coyle added, "We approach every game trying to win them. Sometimes, we have been inconsistent, particularly in the middle phase, where we lost some matches. But, overall these players have given everything they have got.
"We obviously want to add to the quality and the pace, as we did in the transfer window with young Boris coming in, Farukh and Len (Seiminlen Doungel) have also done really well. So, that's the kind of young players we want to add to the squad and hopefully get performances like we did."
Thoughts on Boris Singh's performance
Lastly, Boris Singh broke the deadlock against the Islanders and this was only his second appearance for Jamshedpur after his move from ATK Mohun Bagan. The former Wigan manager was highly impressed with his performance, as he revealed "I have been pleased with him in everyday training. I got to tell you that he was injured in the closed-door game we played against SC East Bengal.
"But still, he was so energetic and it was great to get him back. He just came in scored the goal and I think he will only get better from here. He is a lovely kid, always has a smile on his face and I love working with him."
