The Englishman spoke on the back of his side's first victory of the season.
“It’s always nice to get a win and this is our first win of the season. This is a great start to the year, as we hope to continue with winning momentum,” said Robbie Fowler as SC East Bengal tasted their first win of the season against Odisha FC.
“Brighter” East Bengal
The New Year started on a “bright” note for East Bengal, as they bagged their long-cherished first win of the campaign, with their newest signing Bright Enobakhare scoring the winner. The Robbie Fowler side managed to come up with a 3-1 scoreline, as all of their attacking players; Anthony Pilkington, Jacques Maghoma, and Enobakhare found their shooting boots against the Juggernauts.
Speaking on his takeaways from the game the Englishman said, “It was a great performance, a professional one from the boys. This club is all about progress and we are trying to get better. We are building our future and we know there are a lot of ways to do it.”
He further added, “I think we knew the way we were playing, we will get success eventually and that’s what has happened today. We have made some changes and we have bettered our progress.”
Simple tactics & full points
“We have tried to keep things as simple as possible and that’s what I think clicked today,” said the Red and Gold tactician when asked about the tactics he implemented to quench the winning drought. Fowler elaborated, “it’s not always about your formation, our players had a role on the field and they did it perfectly.
“Bright had a fantastic outing. He changed things far better, as he turned the game after coming on the field. When you make the game look so simple it becomes easier to make things positive on your side.” Though SCEB narrowly missed out on a clean-sheet the coach was not concerned, as he said, “We always want to keep clean-sheets, but what we want more is three points.”
Raju Gaikwad’s performance
It was Raju Gaikwad’s long throw that helped Pilkington open the scoring. The veteran defender joined the EB camp in the winter window and has instantly become a man to rely on. “Raju has played many years of football and tonight he looked comfortable. He played like a man who did not want to get beaten and that’s what we like about him,” said Fowler, as he praised the defender. He further added, “His attitude was first class tonight and I think it was a great starting performance for him. But, for now, he has set himself a standard. So, he has to live up to it and I am confident that he will do that,” the coach signed off.
