The 20-year-old right-back is among the promising young talents in the I-League.

TRAU FC have picked up a promising prospect for the upcoming I-League 2020-21 season by adding young defender Abdul Salam to their squad. The 20-year-old already has quite a lot of experience for his age, having featured in the competition for NEROCA FC as well as Real Kashmir FC in the past.

Salam joined the Snow Leopards last season after spending the 2018-19 season with NEROCA, emerging as a bright prospect for the Orange Army. A versatile, speedy right-back with enough potential to cause trouble down his wing, Salam has been one of the better performing youngsters in the I-League.

He made nine appearances for NEROCA in the 2018-19 I-League and also featured quite often for Real Kashmir last season, as they maintained one of the best defensive records in the last campaign.

Salam emerged as a bright young prospect in the local level at Manipur before NEROCA managed to sign him up. He won the best defender award as part of the Orange Army in the 2019 CC Meet tournament. Moreover, he also won the Manipur Premier League and Loktak Trophy with NEROCA in his time at the club.

As a matter of fact, TRAU FC also showcased interest in Abdul Salam when he was on the verge of leaving NEROCA last season. However, they opted signing experienced right-back Abhishek Das instead to take helm in their defence.

It seems like TRAU FC are now changing things up at the back, opting for more new blood to energise their defence and Abdul Salam should add a lot of spark to their right flank. He can burst up and down the wing causing trouble and the team's free flowing style should also help him take that step forward in his career.

Further, the club is still building their team for the upcoming I-League season. They managed an impressive sixth-place finish in their debut campaign in the competition after a horrible start, but will aim to improve upon that this time around.
