There were over 9 million players on Fantasy Premier League 2021-2022.

With the new Premier League season just around the corner, hype is already building around the new Fantasy Premier League game for the 2022-23 season. Last season FPL was home to 9 million managers, a record-high number. FPL prices for some players from all 20 Premier League clubs have already been revealed over the past few days.

Mohamed Salah was once again on top of the points charts as the Egyptian scored a total of 265 points overall. Spurs forward Son Heung-Min came in a close second, recording a total of 258 points last FPL season. Trent Alexander-Arnold was once again in a league of his own in comparison to other defenders. The Liverpool right-back chalked out 208 points in total. Jarrod Bowen finished 4th in terms of the overall points with 206 points. Joao Cancelo finished 5th with 201 points.

Here we take a look at the top 10 assets to own in FPL 2022-23:

10. Ivan Perišić - 5.5m

Spurs signed Ivan Perisic on a free transfer from Inter Milan. Perisic has previously worked with Antonio Conte and he majorly featured down the left flank. The Croatian has been listed as a defender in FPL 2022-23. Knowing Conte's 5 back system and the wing-backs pushing quick high up, Perisic could take up the space of a midfielder while being listed as a defender.

9. Matty Cash - 5m

Cash managed a very decent return last term of 147 points. The Polish right-back looked particularly strong after Steven Gerrard's arrival at the helm. Heading into next season, Aston Villa have made some brilliant signings, the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos. The Villans look very strong and Cash looks like a great option for FPL.

8. Riyad Mahrez - 8m

If rumours are to be believed, Raheem Sterling is close to joining Chelsea, This would be the perfect chance for Riyad Mahrez to return to the limelight. Not too long ago, Mahrez headed his side into the Champions League final following a brilliant display against PSG. But he only played a bit par role last term. At the price tag of 8m, the Manchester City winger could turn out to be the bargain of the season.

7. Bukayo Saka - 8m

Even after the signing of Gabriel Jesus and Fábio Vieira, Saka still looks like the best attacking option for Arsenal. The 20-year-old drafted an impressive 179 points in FPL 2021-22. Saka is over most free kicks (direct or indirect) for the Gunners and he was also placed on penalties in the second half of last term when Alexandre Lacazette was not on the pitch. With Alexandre Lacazette gone, Saka could be the first-choice penalty taker. On top of that place at just 8m makes Saka a very good addition to every FPL manager's team.

6. Luis Díaz - 8m

Despite joining Liverpool last January, Diaz has established himself as a very important member of the Liverpool frontline. The 25-year-old registered 4 goals and 3 assists in the second half of the Premier League last term. He racked up 64 points in the second half of the season while competing with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota. But with Sadio Mane off to Bayern Munich, Diaz looks like a certain starter for Jurgen Klopp's side.

5. Reece James - 6m

Following the theme of high-scoring defenders last term. Chelsea's Reece James makes the list. Both Ben Chilwell and Reece James are priced at 6m and both seem great options for next term. James did miss a major chunk of last season due to injury setbacks. But he still racked up 141 points in limited appearances and if he can put his injury woes behind him, the English right-back looks like a great option for next term.

4. João Cancelo - 7m

After 2 rather disappointing seasons with the English champions, Cancelo finally showed his class last term. The Portuguese right-back majorly played as the left-back last season but he was instrumental in Manchester City's Premier League triumph. Cancelo ended the season with 19 clean sheets and 12 attacking returns to his name, totalling to 201 points overall.

3. Mohamed Salah - 13m

The Egyptian star is the most expensive player in this season's FPL. Salah was top for both goals and assists in the league last term and was also the highest point scorer (265 points) in FPL. He also holds the record for the most points in a single season (303 points in 2017-18) since the first FPL season back in 2002-03.

2. Erling Haaland - 11.5m

Despite being unproven in the Premier League and the high price tag. Haaland is without a doubt a must-own asset in FPL 2022-23. The Norwegian forward recorded 83 goals and 19 assists in just 87 appearances for Dortmund. Now moving to the most attacking side in England, Haaland seems destined for the Premier League golden boot and a great FPL season.

1. Trent Alexander-Arnold - 7.5m

The Liverpool right-back is once again the most expensive defender in FPL. But Trent Alexander-Arnold has recorded 200+ points in 2 of the last three seasons. Alongside Andrew Robertson, Trent is the chief set-piece taker at the club and is in charge of most corner kicks and free kicks (direct or indirect). The 23-year-old is a must-own for every FPL manager.
