Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammed scored for the Angels, while Kouame Joseph cancelled it in added time.

Last minute strike from Nigerian Kouame Joseph rescued a point for Calangute Association as they held Guardian Angel Sports Club to a 1-1 draw in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

With this draw, Calangute continued their 5th position with 26 points from 19 matches, while, Angels also remained on the 3rd place with 30 points from 19 outings.

Angels made only one change to their side which defeated Corps of Signals in the last match as Ghanaian striker Abel Hammond was named in the starting XI by their coach Riston Rodrigues, whereas, Calangute coach Alex Alvares also made few changes to their squad despite a drubbing victory over Vasco SC in the previous round as Newton Azavedo made the first start of the season, while Josley Dias was also back in the starting XI for the Beachside.

Calangute’s U-20 striker Leslee Britto had the best chance to take his side into the lead in the very 4th minute when he was fed by Bersal Viegas in front of empty goal with a fine cross but the frontman failed to keep his header on target from close. Whereas, Angels’ Nigerian striker Yakubu Mohammed also headed wide from 6-yards off Nicholas Rodrigues’ perfect corner.

A few minutes later, Calangute’s midfielder Domnic Fernandes cut past a defender and tried his luck from the top of the box only to see it missed by a hairline distance.

Both the teams had equal opportunities in the rest of the session which witnessed an end-to-end business in the remaining 25 minutes but failed to break the stalemate at the half-time.

On crossing over, Angels came close to scoring in the 49th minutes when their defender Nicolau Colaco shot on the goal from distance but Calangute keeper Jason D’Mello came with a diving save to push his powerful strike for a corner.

After some continues attacks after the resumption of play, Angels finally surged ahead in the 53rd minutes when substitute Alson Oliviera collected a back pass from the opponent and passed it to Yakubu who covered some ground and shot past Calangute keeper from the top of the box to put his side into the lead.

The beachside quickly recovered from the goal and marched many times on the rivals but most of their moves were cleared by Calangute defence line. In one of these, Calangute almost found the equaliser when Amar Halankar headed in the frame off Bersal’s corner but Angels custodian Ram Sroop nicely collected his strong header.

Calangute finally managed to score the equaliser in the added time when Kouame’s header off Domnic’s corner sliced Angels Alson head and finished at the far post to give an important point for the Calangute.
