The Green Brigade won their straight sixth match in the league.

Salgaocar FC registered a convincing 5-0 win over Corps of Signals in the Goa Professional League match played under the floodlights at Duler Stadium earlier in the evening.

With these three points, Salgaocar has 29 points from 16 matches, while Signals has 18 points from 20 matches.

Salgaocar coach Norbert Gonsalves made no changes to his side which humbled Vasco SC in the last match, whereas Signals gaffer Major VS Kamble made two changes following a defeat at the hands of Dempo SC in the last match as U-20 Rudresh Mandrekar and Pawan Thakur found the place in the Army men’s starting XI.

Signals should have taken the early lead when Pawan sent a pin-point perfect cross to unmarked Harshad Thube in the box but the midfielder failed to convert the easy chance in the 10th minutes.

A very next minute, Salgaocar has a chance to take the lead when Stephen Alvares found Nigerian striker Joel Sunday in the goalmouth but the forward failed to keep his header on target.

After few probing attacks, Salgaocar finally broke the deadlock in the 35th minutes when Sanson Pereira’s low cross from the deep left flank was easily tapped in by skipper Gilbert Oliveira to put his side ahead.

Four minutes later, Sanson made it 2-0 for the Green Brigade when he slotted the ball home from 6-yards after U-20 Devendra Murgaonkar failed to tap-in to Stephen’s low cross from the right wing to double the lead for Salgaocar.

On crossing over, Signals were the first to look at the goal when Roshan Singh made a short pass to Rudresh just outside the box who went for the glory from the edge of the box but Salgaocar keeper Rajini comfortably collected it.

Salgaocar also had a chance to further inflate their lead at the hour mark when U-20 striker Debendra cut past Signals defender Paul Victor to enter the box but Signals keeper Binu Purushothama thwarted him in a one-on-one situation.

However, in the 65th minutes, U-20 forward Devendra brilliantly headed in from close off Mackroy Peixote’s fine cross to make it 3-0 for his side.

Three minutes later, Signals were unlucky not to score as Roshan’s shot off Vishnu Chetri’s curling cross hit the side post and went into the hands of keeper Rajini.

At the other end, Nigerian striker Sunday scored the fourth goal for his team when he tapped the ball over the out of position keeper Binu to make it 4-0 in the 71st minutes.

In the dying minutes of the match, Signals keeper Binu made two excellent saves as he first denied Gilbert’s powerful strike from inside, while stretched to his limit in the last minute to block substitute Agnelo Colaco’s fierce shot from the top of the box.

However, in the added time, substitute Agnelo’s sparkling free-kick from the top of the box gave no chance for Signals keeper Binu to make it 5-0 as Salgaocar registered another big win in a row.
