Vasco score four to earn three points against Panjim Footballers
Vasco go up to the 7th position with 20 points from 19 matches, while Panjim have 15 points from 18 matches.
Franky Oliveiro’s hat-trick and a goal from skipper Micky Fernandes helped Vasco Sports Club to squeeze past Panjim Footballers in the cross-town derby match of Goa Professional League, played at Duler Stadium earlier today.
Flan Gomes and Micky were back in the Vasco’s Starting XI who lost to Calangute Association in the last match, while Paulo Joao, Chandan Gawas and Prisco Moura made into the Panjim’s playing XI which were stunned by Cavelossim in their last match.
Panjim almost took lead in the very 2nd minutes when Sachidanand Satelkar found Paulo in front of the goal but the defender saw his header missed the target by a whisker.
Though it was Panjim were the dominant side in the first few minutes, it was Vasco side who took the lead in the 19th minutes when unmarked Franky calmly headed in from close off Flan’s fine cross from the left to make it 1-0 for the Port Towners.
After taking the lead, Vasco were more dominant in the rest of the session but could not managed to make more damage to the opponents, whereas, Panjim coach brought in Egyptian mideo Fady Riad to sharpen them in the attacking but Vasco’s last line along with Franky and Micky made some superb clearances to keep their side safe.
Vasco took just 50 seconds after the resumption of play to inflate their lead when Franky covered some ground after getting hold pass from Flan and finished the ball in the top corner with an excellent shot from just inside the box to make it 2-0 for his side.
Pumped-up by the quick goal, Vasco added another to their tally in the 50th minute when Micky’s stiff grounder from the left flank entered the far-post to make it 3-0 for the Port Towners.

10 minutes later, Franky completed his first hattrick of the season when the striker danced past Panjim Keeper Gurpreet Singh and calmly finished the ball in the empty net to put Vasco into the driver seat.

In the closing stage of the match, Fady added another to Panjim’s tally with a neat header off Clifton Fernandes’ fine cross from the distance. However, it was too late to get back into the match as Vasco took away all three points from the match.
