Ghanaian Yakubu Mohammed scored the only goal of the match.,,

Guardian Angel Sports Club edged past Vasco Sports Club as they registered a 1-0 win in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium earlier today.

GASC made four changes to his side as Mickey Fernandes, Benzu Clemente and Perryson Rebelo found their names in the starting XI , he also introduced Ghanaian striker Yakubu Mohammed. While Goalkeeper Shilton Fernandes, Mid Olvin Cardozo and Rovan Pereira were the new faces for Vasco.

Both teams after defeats in their last league match started assertively with victory on their minds. Both share equal possession but the Curchorem side showed more promise.

VSC started the match on an attacking note as within the first five minutes they made four runs into the opposition’s box but every time Ivory Coast Striker Franck Kouassi failed to beat the offside trap. In the 6th minutes U20 winger Kingslee Fernandes showed excellent footwork to dribble past two defenders before passing to Princenton Rebello in the box, but his shot was blocked by Gaurdian Defender Mickey. Few minutes later Kouassi made a solo run into the 18 yard box but failed to finish it as the Gaurdian shot-stopper dived to deny him. At the other end Yakubu managed to get a direct free-kick after Vasco’s Nagesh Naju handled the ball on the edge of the box. Micky’s direct free-kick slipped from the gloves of Vasco custodian Shilton Fernandes to find Yakubu Muhammad who bashed the ball into the goal making it 1-0 for the Curchorem side. Vasco should have equalized in the 27th minute but Kingslee’s shot from inside the box was blocked by defender Mickey resulting in a corner. In the closing stage of the first half Guardian Angel’s Yakubu saw two of his shots sail over the crossbar. In added time Yakubu chested down the ball in the danger area after receiving a curling cross from Perryson but failed to keep his shot on target.

Gardian Angel continued to exert their dominance in the second half. Just ten minutes after crossing over they should have doubled their lead but Perryson shot’s from point blank range was blocked by Vasco keeper Shilton and the ball travelled to Yakubu, who was in the perfect position to score but his low shot missed the target narrowly. On 64 minutes, Perryson’s shot from six yards was pushed out for a corner by the Vasco keeper. Ten minutes later substitute Lavino Fernandes tried his luck from distance but the Vasco keeper stretched to his limit to save it.

In the dying minutes of the match the portside went all out in search for an equalizer but Nasar Abdul Kader and Kingslee Fernandes strikes from close range was saved by keeper Ram Sroop.

VSC Head Coach Eban Mesquita was disappointed with the result and said, “We conceded a silly goal. We played a good game but were lacking in attack.”
