A solitary goal by substitute Park Hyon-il was enough for DPR Korea to clinch the title of the Hero Intercontinental Cup 2019 at the EKA Arena in Ahmedabad against a spirited Tajikistan side. Both the coaches met the media after the game.
The Tajikistan head coach Usmon Toshev gave his thoughts about the game by stating, “We were not as fresh as we would have liked to be and you could see that on the pitch. The players were tired in the second half.”
When questioned about the tactics used by DPR Korea to physically get amongst his players he said, “They (DPR Korea) knew we didn’t come fresh at the game and they were smart enough to use that tactic.”
He also gave his thoughts about the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers by saying, “We didn’t come here with our first-team squad as some of our players are playing in Europe. But, by the time of the qualifiers we’ll be playing with our best squad.”
