East Bengal to get international sponsorship boost ahead of I-League campaign

An Italian brand has signed a 3-year deal with the Red and Gold Brigade.

Kolkata giants East Bengal have got a big boost ahead of their start to the I-League campaign on 28th of November against Aizawl FC at the Salt Lake stadium. They are all set to sign a big deal with Italian sportswear brand PERF for the next three seasons.

The Italian company which has bases in the US, Europe, Canada and UK, has tied up with the e-commerce sources as well as independent retail markets for the product distribution in India. The brand will first be launched in metro cities followed by tier I and II cities, later aiming to launch its exclusive stores. Their first attempt at Indian market is through football and that too having their logo on the shirt of a big club like East Bengal will attract Indian customers and for sure it is considered a smart move.

East Bengal previously had Shiv Naresh as their official kit sponsor from 2013-17 but according to an internal source close to the club, "They never looked to do something different with jerseys and failed to attract the officials and fans. On top of that, when East Bengal was going through a financial crisis, Shiv Naresh owners never came up to help East Bengal and the amount they give on an annual basis is very less considering the competition in Indian market at present."

I-League clubs, since long have faced difficulties regarding the sponsorship deals. Added finances will boost up the chance for East Bengal who are on a hunt to win their maiden I-League title. Adding to it, this may pose as a defining factor for them to be a part and have the ammunition to go against the ISL teams if the merger really happens in near future.
