I-League 2020-21: Fixtures, venues, timings and all you need to know

The schedule for the first 10 rounds of the competition were announced earlier today.

The new season of I-League 2020-21 is scheduled to start in a month’s time as the AIFF announced the fixtures on Tuesday morning. The season kicks off on 9th January 2021 with new entrants Sudeva FC taking on newly-promoted side Mohammedan SC at the iconic Salt Lake Stadium, with the match being scheduled for a 2.00pm kickoff.

The entire tournament will be played at only three venues – the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, Kishore Bharati Krirangan at Jadavpur and the Kalyani Municipal Stadium in Kalyani. Exciting clashes are in plenty in this new season; here are the timings, fixtures and venues for each team.

Mohammedan Sporting Club

The Kolkata giants recently gained promotion to the I-League this season after comfortably clinching the playoffs title in October. They have made some serious signings during the course of the transfer window and will be raring to keep their winning momentum intact in the I-League 2020-21 season as well.

RoundGlass Punjab FC

Punjab FC of last season was taken over by Chandigarh-based corporates RoundGlass and are now rebranded as RoundGlass Punjab FC. The team narrowly ended up in the 3rd spot last season which had to be called off due to the global pandemic. This season, with the backing of new owners, they will be wishing to get their hands on the title once again.

Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) FC

TRAU won the 2nd Division League in 2018-19 and last season became only the second Manipuri side to feature in the competition. They had a decent campaign last season and will be hoping to live up to the expectations of their fans this time too.

Gokulam Kerala FC have had a decent outing since they were introduced to the league three years ago. Although they never finished in the top four in their short history, this time they'll be looking to leave a mark in the league.

Chennai City FC

The champions of 2018-19 did not live upto the expectations last season after they ended up at the 7th spot in the table. In the 2020-21 edition of I-League, however, they will be hoping to gain back their lost form with good performances.

Churchill Brothers

Two-time champions team Churchill Brothers have been historically a strong force in the league and have always been one of the favourites for the title. Although their position was 8th in the table last season, they had a game in their hand, a win which could have propelled them to the 2nd spot. With East Bengal and Mohun Bagan out, they are among the most decorated teams in the I-League 2020-21 season and will look forward to carrying on with their legacy as well.

Aizawl FC will be looking to redeem themselves after a disappointing campaign last season, after they narrowly missed out on relegation, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. The rejuvenated side from Mizoram will be coming with all their guns blazing to overcome the sorrows of last season.
