Sreenidhi Deccan rope in former TRAU FC midfielder Phalguni Singh

The new entrants in the second tier of Indian football have added another promising player to their ranks.

Sreenidhi Deccan have been fairly busy in the transfer market. The club have brought together a very interesting squad of players before their debut campaign in the I-League. The competition is set to start in late 2021 under strict COVID-19 protocol in Kolkata. On Thursday, the Vizag-based club announced the arrival of Konsam Phalguni Singh ahead of the upcoming 2021-22 season.

The midfielder joins from TRAU FC and was a key figure in the side. He was also the captain of the Red Pythons and had a major impact on many of their performances. Interestingly, there were reports which suggested that ATK Mohun Bagan were set to be his next destination, but the move did not materialize. His new employers will hope that Phalguni can perform at a high level in order to achieve success next season.

I-League experience

The Manipur-born player started his career in the Manipur State League with North Imphal Sporting Association. He then went on to sign for TRAU FC in July 2019. 

Phalguni Singh has played in the I-League (21 games) and the Second Division League (eight games), notching four goals and two assists overall. The 26-year-old has also featured twice in the Durand Cup previously, has a good understanding of Indian football and is a reliable midfielder. 

He has clocked over 3.000 minutes and will only get better as the player nears his peak. He had a very successful season last year and was part of the team of the season as well. Furthermore, SDFC have been very smart in picking players who are either ambitious to improve or have good experience of the I-League. This will result in a good combination and a balanced squad.

Sreenidhi Deccan FC - expect surprises

The new entrants in the upcoming season of the I-League could be the surprise package of the season. SDFC have gathered a good squad and they will be a handful under former Gokulam Kerala head coach Fernando Santiago Varela.

Players like Phalguni Singh will be raring to make an impact and align their ambitions with the club. Some other notable arrivals include the likes of Ubaid CK, Dinesh Singh, Shahbaaz Khan, Suraj Rawat and more. The competition will be unaware of the playing style and the team’s approach, which could result in surprise results and a few upsets.
