The start of the 2025-26 season has been disappointing for Indian football fans as the Indian national football team crashed out of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. With the Indian Super League also delayed, morale is at an all-time low.

However, the Indian U17 girls are looking to flip this script. The young tigresses are on the cusp of qualifying for the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026, which will be played in China. Part of group G, the Indian U-17 women’s team is on top of the three-team group, with one game to go.

What is at stake for India U17 team and what to expect?

India, alongside the Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan, are fighting it out for a solitary qualification spot in Group G. With the last game of this group set to be played today, all three teams still have a chance of going through to the next stage.

As of now, the young Blue Tigresses are leading the charge with 3 points from one game. They beat the Kyrgyz Republic 2-1 to get the maximum points on the board. The Kyrgyz Republic U-17 women’s team secured a similar score in their second game against the Uzbekistan U17 women’s team to open up this qualification group.

All three teams still have a chance of making it to the continental tournament. The Indian U17 women’s team will face the Uzbekistan U17 women on Friday. A win will qualify the Blue Tigresses for the AFC U17 Asian Cup.

The India U17 women’s team has won six of their last seven matches in all competitions since August 2025. A draw in their upcoming game will be sufficient to take them to the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026. This could be the first time that the Indian women qualify for the said tournament on merit.

The match between India U17 women and Uzbekistan U17 women is set to be played on 17th October 2025 in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. Kickoff is scheduled at 6:30 pm IST.

The match will be streamed live on Kyrgyz Sport TV’s official YouTube channel. There will be no LIVE telecast on any Indian TV channels.
