Who will India face in AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup?

Thailand will host the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup.

The groups for next year’s AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup have been finalised. India are placed in a tricky group alongside six-time champions Japan, Australia and Chinese Taipei. The Young Tigresses will fight for their ultimate prize next year from April 1 to 18.

The tournament will be hosted by Thailand for the second time. The Southeast Asian nation hosted the tournament in 2019 as well. The 2026 edition will feature 12 teams for the first time in the competition’s history, opening the door for more teams to show their potential.

India in Group C

The Young Tigresses were placed in Pot 4 before the draw with teams like Bangladesh and Jordan. As the draw approached its completion, India got to know their opponents in the tournament. Joakim Alexandersson’s side will face the mighty Japan, who have lifted the trophy six times in the past, Australia, and Chinese Taipei.

Group A will feature the hosts, Thailand, with teams like China PR, Vietnam, and Bangladesh. In Group B, the defending champions DPR Korea, Korea Republic, Uzbekistan, and Jordan will try to own the top spot. The top two sides from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals

The semi-finalists of the tournament will qualify for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Poland. India has a shot at scripting history by qualifying for the tournament for the first time, should they move past the group stage and the quarter-finals.
